Dungeons & Dragons
I know that there are quite a few of us out there that have, or still do, play Dungeons & Dragons pnp. I know I've been playing it for over 20 years now. About a month ago I found out that D&D Online was going free 2 play. I got invited to the beta so I thought I'd give it another shot. See, I used to play it a couple years back but then I couldn't justify paying a monthly fee for a video game, it just seems ridiculous.
Well, now DDO is f2p and I couldn't be happier. Will I come back to GW? Maybe. Will I come back anytime soon? Probably not. I guess the purpose of this post is two-fold. One, to say (perhaps temorarily) goodbye to Guild Wars and the community here at guildwarsguru. Second to let everyone here know that in oreder to play DDO for free all you have to do is visit their hompage, download the client, install it and start playing.
Now, you can play the entire game from beginning to end for free. BUT. Some of the adventure packs have to be bought with Turbine points in the DDO in game store. Now in order to get Turbine points, you can pay rl money for them, or you can unlock them by gaining favor in the game. If you still wish to pay to play, you'd be considered a v.i.p. with access to everything in the game.
For those of you interested in playing DDO, I'd like to make a suggestion. If you just download the client and install and play, you'll end up with 2 character slots. (again you can buy more in the ddo store with turbine points) If you pay a monthly fee, you get 10 character slots. I would suggest the third alternative. Go out and buy DDO from your local pc game store for $10. With this, you get 1 month of being a v.i.p. so you can get a feel for what you might want to save up your turbine points for. Then, after the month is up, if you decide not to pay for it, it will revert to a free 2 play account. BUT, you will not have just 2 character slots, you'll have 4 because you used to be a v.i.p.
Now I could post the link to DDO's homepage, or even the link to the client download. But, if I remember correctly (and that's doubtful) they frown on that kinda thing in the forums here. So just go out, google Dungeons & Dragons Online, go to the homepage, download the client and roll up a rogue or a cleric or a ranger, etc and start playing!
I'll post some in game pics and maybe a gameplay video later on to get you all more interested. Goodbye for now!

As long as you don't post referral links like bite fight or mybrute... stupid shit like that posting up the main page of a game is fine.

Meh, I would play, but:
a) I already play 2 MMOs and I'll be spending time replaying Might and Magic VIII soon, plus I have school - no time
b) There are 4 MMOs coming out soon that I'm interested in - don't want to get involved
c) If I was going to play another MMO right now it'd be LotRO - lack of interest in setting, etc
d) I've been playing Warlock (the Caltech-born variant of the original, first developed when my dad was in school there and isolated from the D&D world ever since) too long, and so I'm used to a COMPLETELY different ruleset - too lazy to learn new rules
Anyhoodle... yeah. But glhf to those who will play, I guess.

I'm not interesting in DDO because:
1. I'm over D&D
2. I don't like the setting
3. D&D wasn't meant for an online game so they had to screw with it
4. Too many levels. Which I see as a pointless task and waste of time and resources.
5. Wizards of the Coast kinda killed D&D and should go back into MtG.

I tried this out recently, its pretty fun. It has more of a action adventure feel than an MMORPG feel. Dungeons have lots of puzzle solving and key finding, more akin to what you'd find in a single player RPG, and the combat is more action oriented than most MMOs. Its a pretty good game for free, and its worth a download imo, just don't expect it to be the full graphical Dungeons and Dragons experience on the internet.

It feels like playing a Diablo MMO, honestly. I doubt I'd pay for it, but it's fun to dick around with.

ADnD is what I cut my RPing teeth on, when I was 12 years old Thanks, mom and dad!
I'm not a DnD fan, though. And I generally don't care for MMOs. So I'm passing on this one, methinks.

We make sense, too (and our magic system isn't silly). I suppose 'twould be fun to try out 3.5 someday, though, and see where our rulesets have diverged from 1.0.
